Some Will Fight Sample 2

The Hidden Plague Part One

The Hidden Plague

By

pg. 1

They were feared of all kingdoms, everyone paled at the thought of them,

They were said to have wolves’ teeth, fearsome red eyes, claws that broke hardened steel

They conquered the countryside, village by village, town by town

At the sound of their howls and the beat of their drums, all people fled

Half man, half wolf, their masterful hand-to-hand combat, our fates did seal

They were feared of all kingdoms, every nation paled at the thought of them,

They conquered the coast, and our people, for their freedom they plead

Our people lived in servitude, and our masters’ hatred they did feel

For, they conquered the countryside, city by city, province by province

One day, the conquerors had gone, following where their master led

Sadly, they did not leave because we fought with honor or zeal

For, they were feared of all kingdoms, everyone paled at the thought of them,

The people regained the land they had lost grateful they were not dead

They rejoiced for to the conquerors they no longer had to kneel

For, they ceased to conquer the countryside, region by region, burg by burg

The glorious news of the conquerors defeat was quickly spread

Though this news was joyful, our cowardly actions it did reveal

They were feared of all kingdoms, everyone paled at the thought of them,

They conquered the countryside, person by person, house by house, while we stood by.

And now we prepare, training our men to fight a fearsome force

We wait for their return, for we know they will return to fight

And so we watch, wait, and train, for we will fight for what is right

So that when they come, nothing will stay us from our determined course

We cannot always defend you, so the will to fight we must enforce

For, if we live complacently, we will face another blight

If we allow the evil to return, we will live in midnight

We refuse to fail our people and live in constant remorse

Thus, we ask, for your sake, that everyone is ever watchful

So that good may prevail when the worlds evils rise again

To act in any other way would be harmful and reproachful

For inaction would ensure that our enemies can seize our domain

We must prepare to ensure we defeat those who are hostile

Through no other course of action can our people remain.

When evil comes some will embrace it, some will ignore it, some will endure it, and some will fight it. Don’t regret your choice, fight the evil that will surely come.

The leader of the Charkin walked down the hall to the dungeon where he kept his five most dangerous enemies. These five had grouped themselves together when they realized that the world was going to ignore their impending demise. They formed a coalition that would forever stand up against the evils of the world, but they feared that the coalition would end with them, therefore they tried to send the people words of hope. Once the Charkin leader arrived at their cell block he stood in front of the cells where they would be executed. His men had the five surrounded, but the Charkin knew that their defeat was on its way, for millions had risen up against them. The leader of the Charkin ordered the five—who had written the poem and called the people to act—to be executed.

Then he tore the poem right before the words “while we stood by.” If he destroyed any more people would know, but if he didn’t destroy the poem; people would rise up again. He knew that he must obliterate their hope. Without the knowledge that they had been defeated before, they would lose the hope that they once had, and more would ignore, endure, and embrace the evil they brought.

He smiled at this thought, “You haven’t defeated us,” He sneered in their faces, “You’ve only prolonged our inevitable and eminent success.”

Then he gave the signal and each one was killed in unison. They fell to the floor and he stepped over them nonchalantly.

After that, he and his men disappeared, waiting for the people they so dearly wanted to rule to forget they existed, to forget they must prepare, and to forget that they must watch for the Charkin.

When they became sufficiently weak and complacent, the Charkin would strike again.
